My Story
“Our ship sponsored a local charity for disabled children. They came for a tour one day but one poor soul was wheelchair bound and couldn’t speak. His mother said, ‘look I understand he can’t go on.’ I thought, bugger that. So myself and a mate offered to carry him around. We sat him in the Captain’s chair, the pilot’s seat of the helicopter. There were tears rolling down his face. I said to his mother ‘I hope we haven’t hurt him' and she said ‘no, no, honestly these are tears of joy'.”
